This means that with a carrier female he would produce an average of 25% of +/+ puppies. They would be sensitive to high dosages of some drugs like Ivermectin, but NOT at the monthly prevention dosage (a positive to MDR1 dog may assume up to 16 tablets of Cardotek (Hearthgard) w/o any side effect). According to Washington State University, 50% of Australian Shepherds are positive or carriers of the MDR1 gene.
